General Art Terms

The Oekaki mods and I often get many omails asking what something means, and eventually it gets tiring to reply to all of them. So we got together and defined some of the most common art terms that you will see on oekakis and in the art world =). They are in alphabetical order.

Archive
An archive is a picture that is saved to an oekaki by the mods. When a picture is 'archived' it will never be deleted like a normal picture. Usually only the best pictures in an oekaki are archived.

Art Trade
When two artists get together and each make something for one another it is called an art trade. Both of them request something from the other person, and then when they both finish they "trade" their pictures.

Bump
Bumping is when an artist takes one of their pictures from another page in the oekaki and 'bumps' it back up to the first picture on the oekaki. When an artist sends an incomplete picture and completes it later, they usually bump it back to the first page so everyone can see the result of their hard work. Artists should NEVER bump just for more comments.

C&C (Comments and Critique)
When an artist asks for 'C&C' on their work, they want friendly comments and helpful critique to improve their skills.

Collaberation (Collab)
A collab is when two or more artists work together to make one single picture.

Critique (Crits)
Critique is the same thing as criticism. Basically it is when a person kindly points out problems with a picture in order to help the artist improve on that area next time. Note that "This picture stinks." and "OMG THIS IS SO COOL!!" is not critique or criticism.

Redline
When an artist asks for a redline, they basically want someone to take their picture and make corrections to their anatomy or pose with red lines. That way, the original artist can easily see where they are off on their anatomy and can fix it.

Request
A request is simply when one person asks another to draw a picture for them.

Safety Save (S.S)
A safety save is when a person saves their picture before it is done just in case something (like the power going out) happens that would erase it. On an oekaki they would save it and immediately retouch to finish.
